The Inspiring Journey of Abu Hussein

Abu Hussein’s leadership journey began while he was a student at Mpanga Secondary School. During his time at the school, he joined the Peer Education Rwenzori Club, a platform dedicated to empowering young people with knowledge and life skills.

Every Friday during lunchtime, Abu actively organized and participated in peer education sessions. These gatherings attracted many students who came to learn about Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), personal development, and responsible decision-making. His passion for educating fellow students and creating a safe space for discussion quickly made him a respected leader among his peers.

Recognizing his commitment and dedication, fellow students elected Abu Hussein as the President of Peer Education, a position that placed him at the forefront of coordinating and leading peer education clubs across schools in the region. This marked the beginning of a remarkable leadership journey that would extend far beyond the classroom.

Driven by a desire to create positive change, Abu continued to grow as a youth leader. His dedication and vision later earned him the position of National President of the Youth Action Movement, where he championed youth empowerment, leadership development, and community engagement initiatives across the country.

Understanding the challenges faced by many young people in his community, Abu went on to establish a Community-Based Organization (CBO) focused on supporting youth through mentorship, skills development, education, and opportunities for social and economic growth. Through this initiative, countless young people have been inspired and equipped to pursue brighter futures.

His passion for community transformation did not stop there. Recognizing the critical role of media in development, Abu founded Fort TV, a media platform dedicated to providing accurate, timely, and reliable information to the people of the Rwenzori region. Through Fort TV, he has amplified community voices, promoted local development, and ensured that citizens have access to trustworthy information.

From leading Friday lunchtime peer education sessions at Mpanga SSS to becoming a national youth leader, community organizer, and media entrepreneur, Abu Hussein’s story is a powerful testament to how passion, service, and leadership can transform lives and communities. His journey continues to inspire young people across Uganda to believe in their potential and become agents of positive change.
