Alumni Profile - Baguma Ronnie
I’m Baguma Ronald, though most people love to call me Big Brother Ronnie. I was a guy who was so so, I mean so shy, be it associating with a girl, interacting with friends and even participating in class.
I had a friend called Innocent Kawaya, and he introduced me to the Peer Education Kabarole club in 2009. I wasn’t so sure if I needed to join any club, so I had to check it out first. In July 2009, I was invited to attend one of the school conferences. I was so impressed and touched by the messages delivered by the facilitators, especially since it related to my own needs. I was then recruited as a club member and since then, my life has been changed positively to where I am now.
That very day, I was elected to the Kibiito Secondary School’s executive committee where I represented over 300 Senior 1 students. After several trainings in topics such as life skills, leadership, reproductive health and skills on adapting to adulthood, I became more focused , assertive and incisive with my life and learnt to have a goal in life. Peer Education Kabarole opened a path for me to become a leader at all levels of my school career first as a class captain, and then in other clubs some of which I headed, such as the Red Cross, Scouts and the debating club.
In 2013/14, I was elected as the Chairperson of my School Council of over 2,000 students, on top of leading over 10 clubs. I am now a youth councilor in my home area, and a journalist working for MMU RADIO 105.2FM “Amagezi Murro”. You can always follow my program by listening live or streamlining live via online at mmuradio@mmu.ac.ug. I also consider myself a life-long Peer Educator for Peer Education Kabarole.
I never knew I would come this far in my life, and I want others to know it’s NEVER too late for you too to change the story of your life into a memorable and joyful life. I know that life’s challenges are never ending, but don’t forget that good things come to those who believe, better things come to those who are patient, but the best things will only come to those who work hard and never give up. Your life is in your hands, and will depend on the decisions and directions you take.
