ABOUT PEER EDUCATION RWENZORI

Peer Education Rwenzori (PER) formerly called Peer Education Kabarole is a school-based peer education program that operates as a community based organization in the Districts of Kabarole, Bunyangabu and Fort Portal Tourism City in the Rwenzori Sub region of western Uganda.
The program aims to improve student knowledge and critical thinking skills about reproductive health, mental health, leadership skills and agriculture through the use of student peer educators. Peer educators provide information on topics such as HIV, AIDS, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), pregnancy and relationships, stress, personal hygiene, drug abuse, modern/urban agriculture, leadership training among others.
In doing so, PER equips peer educators with the ability to make important choices that position themselves for long and healthy lives and opportunity to pass this knowledge onto their peers. Long term goals include decreasing involvement in risky behaviors, increasing knowledge of safe sex practices and encouraging future health-promoting decisions among the Rwenzori Sub region of Western Uganda.
